Compassionate Systems Leadership
In Action

Supporting System Transformation Across Sectors

To date, the BC Network has engaged primarily with the public education system. With the support of the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care, the Network has offered training sessions in most school districts and many independent schools. Additionally, the Network has worked over the last three years with the provincial Strengthening Early Years to Kindergarten initiative; this initiative is designed to nurture systemic connections between the early childhood and K-12 sectors. While the work with other sectors is just beginning, the Compassionate Systems Leadership(CSL) framework has relevance for all systems: community based and across other government ministries. We anticipate this segment of the work to grow, creating opportunities within and across all child and family serving sectors.

CSL in Education

A partnership between the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care and HELP has facilitated the offering of CSL sessions in schools and districts across the province. The Network has built a consistent approach to CSL training in education through BC specific content development and standardization. We have also been intentional in aligning the CSL framework with related initiatives for leadership development, equity enhancement and mental health in schools.

The Network works with school districts and schools to tailor the content of CSL sessions to local needs and interests. Training options include:

  • Introduction to Compassionate Systems Leadership
  • Using Compassionate Systems Leadership as a lens for District planning
  • School Based Compassionate Systems Leadership
  • Compassionate Systems Leadership in Early Learning
  • Practicing with Compassionate Systems Leadership (coaching support)

Training is offered on a fee for service basis.

Strengthening Early Years to Kindergarten Transitions

The Strengthening Early Years 2 Kindergarten Transitions (SEY2KT) initiative provides opportunities for school districts and communities to work together in support of young children and their families. The program supports smooth transitions from home to school and operates in 48 school districts.

The Network has offered CSL training since 2021 to the local SEY2KT teams.  CSL tools and practices align effectively with this initiative as it strives to create a more integrated birth to school entry system.
