Terry Taylor

Certified Master Practitioner in Compassionate Systems, Pedagogical Lead & Adjunct Professor, UBC Rural & Remote Teacher Education program

Dr. Terry Taylor is a Certified Master Practitioner in Compassionate Systems through the Center for Systems Awareness led by Drs. Peter Senge and Mette Boell and is also certified in the Center’s How to Hold Space program. Terry serves as a Core Provincial Facilitator in Compassionate Systems Leadership, a pillar in BC’s Ministry of Education and Child Care Mental Health in Schools strategy.

Terry serves as Lecturer and Pedagogical Lead for UBC’s Rural and Remote Teacher Education program working in partnership with Dr. Leyton Schnellert, teacher candidates, instructors, Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and communities. She has also taught in UBC’s Practitioner Inquiry and Place-Conscious M.Ed. program and West Kootenay Teacher Education program. In these post-secondary education spaces, Terry embeds Compassionate Systems, EDID, and critical consciousness work cultivating adult well-being, awareness, and anti-colonial systems change.

A former Superintendent of Schools in SD 10, an innovative rural district in BC’s West Kootenay region, Terry leads learning and systems transformation through relational, inclusive, and decolonizing pedagogies and leadership. She has integrated Compassionate Systems tools and practices in her work with teachers, principals, and district staff since 2020 and supports Compassionate Systems change across BC.

Her research interests lie in equity-oriented pedagogies, decolonizing leadership, and well-being for all learners.
