Working Together for Well-Being in BC Schools and Communities

A Forum for Students, Educators, Administrators, Local Partners and Business People committed to community well-being

June 29 – 30th, 2026
Central Okanagan Learning Centre
Kelowna, BC

Bring a team to this two day session, offered by Compassionate Systems BC, which will introduce participants to the compassionate systems framework. Compassionate Systems, a pillar in BC Mental Health in Schools strategy, is an integrated framework to build personal well-being, strengthen relationships, and apply systems thinking tools to help us thrive in the complexity of today’s education system.

Join Peter Senge and a team of BC Compassionate Systems practitioners in this experiential session. An interplay of presentation and hands-on use of tools, strengthens the capacity to understand and build relevance for this approach in your context. Activities will be a mix of working with your team and with others. Individual participants will be grouped with others attending on their own.

We will focus on:

  • understanding that how we show up for ourselves and for each other is essential to the well-being of all.

  • how to cultivate your own and your team’s foundations of wellness, shared values, and relational collaboration.

  • how to use system thinking tools to tackle everyday challenges.

Registration:

Participation can be as an individual or as team. All are welcome, from early learning to secondary, including students, educators, instructional support staff, school administrators, local partners and district staff.

All are encouraged, if possible, to bring a diverse team of colleagues and/or supporters.

An integral part of the Compassionate Systems Framework is the focus on tools, practices, and approaches for cultivating somatic and relational awareness. This can help us to more intentionally grow our quality of attention, presence, aspiration, grounding, and compassion. All this nourishes and cultivates self-  and other care, greater well-being, and the notion of “how we show up” with a dedication to consistently contribute to more generative social fields. In a time where humans are experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression in unprecedented numbers, and where the unpredictable geopolitical situation is destabilizing dramatically, it seems exceedingly important to develop strategies to stay healthy, sane, grounded, and emotionally balanced even in the face of adversity, high-pressure work situations and effects of chaotic world everywhere around us.

With this new offering we want to explore the intricate relationship between ourselves and who we are in the world and our own integrity, motivation, and being. We will practice how we can make decisions rooted in care and greater emotional literacy, relational competences, and compassion. All so that we may become better partners for ourselves and the people around us, for the planet, and for future generations.

Community of Practice

All are welcome to join the Network’s monthly Community of Practice held on Zoom from 7 to 8 a.m. Pacific on the fourth Thursday of the month.  The sessions begin with a grounding and check in practice followed by discussion of a Compassionate Systems tool or practice and its application.  Participants come from across BC and you are encouraged to bring your own experience to the group.  No previous experience is required.

Going Deeper with Compassionate Systems

As we have delivered Compassionate Systems sessions in school districts and communities around the province, we have learned of the interest of many of you to grow your practice and to increasingly lead this work within your organization. Compassionate Systems BC has now decided to offer an “in BC” opportunity to do just that.

The year-long program continues to build on your learning, strengthening your capacity in self, relational and systems leadership. The sessions will focus on making compassionate systems “visible”, allowing you to apply the learning directly to your context. Equity-oriented lenses and Indigenous perspectives that strengthen Compassionate Systems will also be nurtured.

The program will be facilitated by an experienced team of Compassionate Systems practitioners.

Our collective vision:

  • Gain competence doing, modeling, and leading the work.
  • Feel inspired and inspire others.
  • Strengthen your personal practices.
  • Create a network for inquiring deeply into practice.
  • Develop sustainable compassionate systems practice province wide.
  • Cultivate equitable, diverse, inclusive and decolonial structures and practices.

Program includes:

  • In-person Launch Session at UBC in Fall 2026 (date to be announced).
  • Monthly Zoom sessions (90 mins).
  • Zoom Closing Session in Spring 2027 (date to be announced).
  • Program also includes four individual coaching sessions.
